Together

Avery was on the end of Jake’s bed, his fingers brushing the floor and his legs bent, feet in the air. “I wish I could fly,” he said. Jake looked at him next to his shoulder, and dropped his pen on the notebook he had been writing in.

“Really?” Avery nodded.

“I wish I had great big wings,” he added. He moved his shoulders. “I could just fly away.”

Jake smiled at him. “You’d have to make sure they were big enough to take me with you.”

“Duh!” the smaller boy chirped. He grinned and swung his feet, leaning farther forward off Jake’s bed. “They’d be bigger’n me!” Jake turned towards him.

“Where would you go?” he asked him seriously.

“Someplace far away.” Avery studied Jake, thinking. “And warm. With lots of places to hide.”

“With no one around for miles,” Jake added.

Avery smiled. “Nope. Just us. I’d like that.” He leaned over and kissed Jake on the cheek, making Jake flush. Jake tilted his head towards him and then looked at him, leaning forward too and kissing him on the lips. Avery cupped his face, before his hands slid down to Jake’s shoulders.

His arms went around the older boy’s neck as Jake leaned up on his knees, slowly easing Avery up and back onto his back on the bed so he could climb up too. The kiss broke as Avery dropped himself back onto the pillow of Jake’s bed.

“You know your house still has lots of places to hide in,” Jake said softly.

“Younger siblings make hiding difficult even in the biggest house,” Avery replied. He ran his hands up Jake’s arms, watching their progress. He looked up at him, arms looping around his neck to pull him down. “I like it a lot better here anyway.”

Jake kissed him again, kneeling over his hips. It barely took a minute before they were lost in each other, their lips moving seamlessly together and parting wider when tongues flicked out, reflexively looking for that more intimate contact. Jake cupped Avery’s face as Avery moved his hands down over his back and they kissed until they were breathing hard against each other’s lips, not having stopped to breathe properly for several minutes. Jake kissed him once more, tugging at his lips, before pulling away to sit back on his heels over him. Avery slipped his hand up under his tshirt, so his palm was against his stomach. Jake shivered.

“Is your dad going to be very mad?” Avery asked suddenly. Jake just looked at him for a moment; he had skipped worked before, and yes his dad was always mad about it. Especially when he didn’t call. He shrugged.

“Probably. I’ll just tell him I had a lot of homework and was so busy I forgot to call, though I meant to.” Avery looked up at him worriedly. “It’s fine,” Jake murmured, and smiled. “Why wings?” he asked then suddenly, to change the topic. “You could buy your own plane.”

Avery pushed his hand slowly up higher, feeling the way Jake shivered beneath his touch. He shrugged lightly. “Isn’t it an idea? It’s not just the flying. I don’t know.” Both his hands were against Jake’s bare skin now and moving up his sides. Jake was finding it hard to breathe. He finally drew in a deep breath, not responding to anything else about wings, but he could see the delight in Avery’s eyes over his reactions, clouding out the previous worry, so it didn’t seem to matter.

He pushed the smaller boy’s shirt up over his chest as far as he could, trying not to dwell on how Avery arched slightly to help him, until it was bunched up under his arms. He wrapped his arms around Jake’s waist under his shirt as Jake leaned down to kiss him again, harder than before. He thought about all those times hidden away under the bridge, or slyly behind the school that they had touched and pressed close, breathing each other in. Now they were alone and inside, safe from being found by any strange eyes. Jake pressed himself down against Avery, his heart automatically speeding up when the smaller boy arched back up.

He could feel Avery’s nails digging into his back the harder they kissed, until it broke when Avery tilted his head back against the pillows as Jake brushed his fingers over his nipples. Jake felt himself grow hot, trembling with such strong need and desire for the boy beneath him. He knew this time there would be no stopping – and as if to confirm that very thought, Avery looked up at him and slid his hands out from under Jake’s shirt to unbutton his trousers himself. Jake undid the zipper and Avery pulled him down once more, kissing him hard enough it seemed they might melt together.

Jake,” he whispered against his lips as he cupped him through his trousers, feeling him hot and growing harder against his palm.

The front door slammed. “JAKE!”

The two boys flew apart, Jake to the end of the bed where he pulled his shirt straight as Avery rolled off the edge with a soft thump, frantically zipping himself up and straightening his own shirt. Jake rubbed at his lips. He didn’t call anything back to his father, hoping he would think he wasn’t home for a few minutes before coming up to check. He looked over at Avery, slouched between the bed and the wall, flushed and staring out the window.

“Sorry,” he murmured, flushing too, but with embarrassment now. Avery looked over his shoulder and smiled softly.

“S’not your fault,” he whispered. His eyes flicked towards the closed door as something thumped loudly downstairs. “You’re going to be in trouble.”

Jake shrugged. “When am I not?” He smiled at him, reassuringly. “I’d skip work again, for this, you know.”

“I know,” Avery replied. He smiled back. He turned around and kneeled up against the bed, leaning up to kiss Jake softly once more on the lips. “I’ll go down the back stairs.” Jake nodded.

“I’ll see you tomorrow,” he whispered, kissing him again. Avery nodded that time, kissing Jake again. He smiled.

“I want to finish this,” he breathed, flushing a little, but grinning. Jake leaned in, their lips brushing and grinning too, knowing they were pushing it but not caring at that moment.

“Oh, we will,” he breathed back. They kissed once more, before Avery hopped up and quietly stepped out of his room, listening at the door. Jake followed, and finally called down to his father.

“I’m up here!” They could both hear him downstairs, and then head up the wider front stairs rather angrily. Avery slipped down the hallway, and then down the stairs. Jake sighed, biting his lips and hoping that would be a good enough cause for them to look as red and swollen as he was sure they did.
