Ice cream. Crisps. An apple core, orange peels, biscuits. A lot of biscuits.
Jake hadn’t seen anyone eat so much at one time in his entire life.
He sat himself down at the end of the sofa Jack wasn’t sprawled across and put one foot up on the edge of the coffee table where it wasn’t covered in food and various wrappers, and reached for a biscuit for himself.
“Don’t make me throw this at you,” Jack warned him, a spoon full of ice cream halfway to his lips. Jake blinked at him.
“Jack, I can buy you more,” he replied. He moved to pop it in his mouth.
“OI!” Jack glared and waved the spoon threateningly, ice cream nearly dripping off it, as his voice rose. Jake fought the strong urge to throw the small biscuit right at him. Jack pouted.
“Christ, will there be anything for dinner?” Jake muttered, half to himself.
“Leab me ‘lone,” Jake muttered back around the spoon, now in his mouth. He pulled it out and dropped it into the carton and proceeded to sulk at it. “Don’t be mad just cos I’m hungry.”
Jake sighed and scooted closer to him, be only received a glare in response. Ignoring it, he placed his hand gently on Jack’s large round belly and attempted an apologetic smile; though this time he shrunk away slightly when the look darkened.
“Jacob!” Avery had appeared in the doorway, most likely drawn by Jack’s yelling, and was obviously displeased. Jake looked up at him, hand still on Jack’s belly. “Can’t you leave him alone? He needs to eat!”
Jake couldn’t help himself. “So do I,” he muttered back, frowning. Avery, on his way over to them, hit him in the arm.
“He needs to more!”
“Ow! Okay all right don’t hit me.”
Avery just glared. “Be nice.”
“Don’t fight,” Jack interjected, pouting at them sadly. Jake kept his mouth shut with a glance at Jack, afraid he seriously might just burst into tears, and also afraid to be hit again by Avery.
Avery squeezed himself next to Jack on his other side, pressing right up against him and draping an arm over his middle. He kissed his neck and nuzzled him, and Jack in turn smiled and hummed, instantly happy again. He went back to his cream, leaning against Avery, and looked at them both, clearly pleased.
“Jakey was being nice!” he announced, correcting Avery. He happily kept eating his way through the carton of ice cream. “He said he’d buy me more.” Anther spoonful of ice cream disappeared into his mouth.
Jake almost spluttered. But then, setting the carton of ice cream aside, Jack laid himself sideways over his chest and wrapped his arms the best he could around him with his belly in the way. Avery giggled. After a moment, Jake combed his fingers through Jack’s loose hair.
“’Course,” he told him softly, “I’ll buy you whatever you want.” Jack squirmed and yaayed against his chest, the sound muffled between them. Avery, still giggling, flopped himself across their laps and kissed Jack’s nose and suddenly Jake had two giggling boys on top of him and kissing. He smiled.
