Dance Diary in June

June 19, 2001
This was my first class! I was really nervous because I didn't know what to expect. Kiley, my best friend, is in my class! I told her to sign up, and I'm glad that she did! Scoil Rince na Webfeis is my school. I found out that I have to miss this month's feis so that made me kinda sad, but that's alright, because I just started anyway.
My teacher is (hold on, it's spelled funny) Caoilfhionn. It's pronounced Keelin. She also said, "for the sake of sanity, spell it K-e-e-l-i-n." I laughed.
My class consists of 8-13-year-olds (as of January 1st of this year, I'm told). There is about ten kids. Anyway, we learned hop23s (some people call them jump23s and still others call them 123s). They are kinda tricky. I'm not very good at them yet. I can't wait till I am!
We learned the beginning of the reel? I think it's the reel. Yes, the reel. Keelin says that next week we are gonna learn part of the light jig. Yay!
Well, that's all.

Our second lesson was much more tiring because we knew more so we did more. There was a new student in the class. She's a girl named Tracy. She is ten. Tracy doesn't get how to do the hop23s. She thinks it's really hard and almost started crying. I dont think she'll be back next time. She just doesn't seem to be liking it very much.
We working on the lead 'round in the reel, then we learned that whip234567. I think it's the side round? No, side down! That's right. Well, we worked on that, then Keelin showed us (not taught, showed) the whole entire light jig! It was really hard!!! Well, I think so. It looked that way anyway. Tracy's face turned pale pale PALE white after she saw Keelin dance for us. But luckily, Meghan (who is really nice, and the same age as me) told Tracy that we don't know how to do it and that Keelin has been dancing since she was four. Which is all true! Tracy calmed down a bit after that, and just enjoyed Keelin's performance.
Well, that's all for today!
